BLOG SERIES: The Missing Link - LEADERSHIP (Episode 1) | Sam Adedayo

(EPISODE 1)

Far more than a column engagement but a rise to clarion call to take responsibility in a time like this when we see throwing away the knife as the solution to the cut the knife did on the finger.

In my recent research, I discovered that "COLONIZATION IS GOOD IN SO MANY RESPECTS". Without colonization , we probably may not have been exposed to Western life, or maybe at least not early. But in all its goodness, my closer analytical look at colonization portends the deadliest of evils to have befallen Africa. Why? Because the principle on which colonization was built and grew upon was meant to "teach Africans to serve and not to lead". Even after years of our supposed "freedom" from the so called Colonial masters, our colonies (as they were fondly called) have churned out more slaves than leaders.

When our parents were under these colonial masters as students, they sang songs like:

God save our glorious queen
Long live our noble queen
God save the queen
Happy and glorious
Long reign over us
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves
Long to reign over us.

Our parents choicelessly sang this song while they were subject of the imperial powers.

I took time to meditate on the song and imagined the debilitating effect and impact such song (Britons never never shall be slaves) would have on the mind of the singers. It is as good as well saying "we will never never rule".

I then deduced from here that

LEADERSHIP is the exclusive reserve of the queen and the Britons. Such song conditioned the minds of our parents not to aspire to leadership_at least they can be managers.

If singing this song was all they made happen to us as a people, that would do less harm compared to adopting for our schools and institutions of learning curriculums that only churn our parents out as employees for the colonies and nothing more. Of which businesses, government, goverment agencies, non-profit and educational organizations need leaders who can effectively navigate complex, changing situations and get the job done.

Let me ascertain something here that there is nothing such as "a bad leader" or "a good leader". It's you are either a leader or you aren't one.

If we scratch on the surface, the tragic situation of our economy, terrorism, corruption and other, we will definitely find a missing link, which is LEADERSHIP.

I will give a comprehensive definition for leadership next week and how it is actually the missing link.

Thanks for your time reading this introductory part. See you!
