THE Diocesan Board of the Anglican Diocese on the Lake, has authorised it’s Bishop, Rt. Rev. Chijioke Oti, to immediately relocate with his family and secretarial staff.
Vanguard reports that the Bishop was order to relocate to any parish within the diocese until their security in the Cathedral is ascertain. This decision was reached by the board during an emergency meeting held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Kalabari Beach, Oguta.
The board also mandated the Bishop to immediately set up a board of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the recent protest by Oguta parishioners at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Oguta, on July 14, 2018.
The Diocesan Board also applauded Bishop oti for what it referred to as a prompt disciplinary action and face-saving measures to protect the image of the Diocese for the indefinite suspension slammed on one Rev. Jasper Chikwendu for alleged misconduct”
The over 50 delegates passed a vote of confidence on Bishop Oti describing it as untrue the claim that the Bishop is hard-hearted, high-handed and autocratic affirming that the right of ordination remained the prerogative of the Bishop, the Diocesan Board also opined that the Cathedral belongs to the entire diocesan faithful and not exclusively to Oguta indigenes.
They also unanimously condemned the protest which prevented the Bishop from carrying out his statutory functions of the day, including an ordination service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ejemekwuru. They equally resolved that the Cathedral parishioners must write an apology letter to the Bishop as well as an undertaking, assuring the Diocese of the Bishop’s security and that of his family and secretarial staff.
