The Archbishop of Jos, Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has urged politicians in the country to use the widespread party defections going on to make meaningful amendments in the nation.
The Archbishop stated this in Jos during the opening ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, with the theme "Revival of Catholic Traditions and Etiquette in Contemporary Nigerian Church: Catholic Archdiocese of Jos in Focus."
The Archbishop stated that the country's population is ravaged with violence most especially violence resulting from hunger and appeals to politicians to use the defection trend to make a significant difference.
He said;
“Defection has become a much-used word in the lexicon of contemporary Nigerian politics. Many forget that it is a negative word. How I wish it were all about a new breed of leaders that put people, rather than themselves, first.
Nigerians are being consumed by violence, especially violence generated by hunger and youth unemployment. I would be happier if defection could bring about healing the wounds of ethnic, political, religious and terrorist acts, or bring about sincere reparation”
