“If I Had Not Been Performing As A Secular Artist, I Would Have Given Up.” - Prolific Rap Minister, Reenghard Shares His Story On ‘Mit Me' | @Reenghard.

Good day and welcome to 'Mit Me' Pricherman116 Blog's exclusive interview session. Can we meet you sir?.

My Name Is Oba Reengy (aka Dotun Reenghard), I'm A Gospel Rap Act And Graphic Artist.

Your real name is Oba Reengy?

Jesusomidotun Oladimeji Peters.

Nice names you got. Where did your  nickname ‘Reenghard' come from?

Mama Gave Me A Name "Reinhard". So When I Started Rapping...... My Voice Texture, The Style Of Rap And All That Made Me Go For "Reenghard" Which Is Like "Ring Hard".

Hmmm. Great. Reinhard turned Reenghard and started Ringing bells for Jesus to win souls. Lovely. OK. Let's have a knowledge of your childhood and educational background.

I Was Born In Ilorin We Moved To Abeokuta When I Was 10 Which Is 12 Years Now... I Attended Bashorun Moshood Abiola Nursery & Primary School And My Secondary Education At Unity High School. And I Grew Up In The Hood.... Hehe. Ibile Lawa!

Looool wow... I love that. How was the hood like, we used to roll tyres and do all sorts in my own hood then although I didn't play football well.

Yeah Bro..... We Go For Hunting In The Forest Which My Mom Must Not Know About, I Was Very Troublesome When I Was Little... At A Point I Learnt Boxing. I Went From One ‘Wahala’ To The Other. And There Was This Love For Indigenous Music In Me Especially Rap That Was So Strong. Never Knew I'll End Up Rapping.

Hmmm. So how did you start rapping and when?

After My Secondary School Education I Travelled To Lagos For Hustle.... While I Was There In Ebute Metta Yaba I Had Street Big Brothers That Do Music And Because Of My Interest For It I'll Always Stay With Them When They Compose And Do Rehearsals. At A Point I Met Mayano Who's An Indigenous Rapper, Well Known In Ebute Metta That Really Helped Me. He Took Me To Clubs, Rap Battles, Street Freestyles And All That. Then At A Point I Started Freestyle Too. And Later I Met A Guy On The Street "Whalez" That Took Me To Studio For Recording The First Time Ever. Later Somethings Came Up That Made Me Leave Lagos For Abk Where I Started Recording In 2012 But As A Secular Artist Before I Met Jesus And Started Doing Gospel Around 2014 November With A Group "Awon Boiz Yen" That Consist Of Myself, Iztklerh And Olusho.

How did you meet Jesus really? Was is just like the story of brother Paul whom God himself convicted or something?

Hehe (smiles). It Was A Process..... God Created A Longing In My Soul For Him. And Among Many I Know Of My Elder Brother Always Interceeding For Me. He Is A Pastor. After My Salvation, I Didn't Stop Doing Secular Like Immediately.  At First I Taught I'll Just Be A Different Rapper.... Won't Rap About Girls, Money, Drug Violence And All That. But At A Point I Lost Interest..... If I Go For Shows No Matter How Much People Clapped And Shouted, I Didn't Feel Fulfilled Anymore. And That Was A Time When Things Started Changing ‘Small Small’ *Financially*..... I Started Getting Little Shows, Money And Support Unlike Before When You Beg To Even Have The Platform. But I Lost Interest.

Hmmm. And then the chh thing started. That's been how long now?

Started CHH November 2014 With My Debut Single “I Pray”. This Is My 3rd Year.

So, how has life been after you became born again? How has the response to your music been too?

Very Good Bro. Very Good. Brothers Have Been Of Great Help. The Likes Of Provabs, Gamie, Protek, Iztklerh, Nolly, Sokleva, LcBeatz, A-Verse, Rapsodee Daboomsha My Fans And Everyone Mehn. Pricherman! Grateful.

All glory to God brother. What was it like the first time you went upon a stage to minister through rap? Did everyone just accept you like that or you got some crucifixion?

Hehe (smiles). Bro It Was Serious O. If I Had Not Been Performing As A Secular Artist, I Would Have Given Up. It Was So Not Accepted...... It Was A Church Full Of Old People. When I Finished Ministering, The Guy That Played My Soundtrack Was Just Laughing At Me When I Went To Collect My Device. It Was Awkward Bro. But I Didn't Stop. Then My Next Ministration Was Too Much And On And On Its Been God.

Hallelujah. You're into graphics designing too. I mean, you're one of the best graphics designers I've seen so far... When did you learn graphic designing?

Hehe Glory Be To Jehovah! Started Doing Graphics 2014 Holy spirit Taught Me All I Know And Is Still Teaching Me. Never Learnt From Anywhere. Just A Couple Online Tutorial. My Dad Is A Printer Actually.

Wow... That's awesome. When you started doing rap,.what was their reaction at home before and after it turned Gospel?

My Family Been Supportive. My Bro Gave Me My First Recording Money.

That's great. You have two professions so to say, music and graphics, how have you been coupling both perfectly?

Not Very Easy O..... 'Cos Both Are Demanding But God Is Helping Me.

Glory to God. Who are those who have been your source of inspiration in the rap ministry?

Hehe. I Listen To Quite A lot O. But Lecrae Has A Big Place In Me. Lecrae, Andy Mineo & Eshon Burgundy. And I Listen To Every Ibile CHH Rapper. Nolly, Lc, Sola Shittu, A Verse, Daboomsha....... Every One.

That's Cool. In about 5 years from now, where do you See yourself?

As The Biggest Act In The Game O.
Lecrae Kinda Impact From Africa!  Hehe. Jil Nation.

Wow. Are you signed to a record label?

Hmm. Currently On My Own Label. JIL Nation. ‘Jesus Is Light’.

Wow. Have you got signees or it's just you?

We Have A Few Number Of Gospel Acts On. Rhapkheed, Toyosi Godsson And Abalaye Ni Jesu. Rhapkheed And Toyosi Godsson Already Have Materials Out. But This Year More Work Is Coming! I Worked With Them On My Mixtape.

Wow. So we should expect something mind blowing coming from Reenghard soon?

Yessir!

We're waiting on that. Do you have plans to further your education?

Yeah Bro. For Sure. I'm On That.
